Trezor® Start — Secure Your Crypto Wallet

Official-style setup walkthrough to unbox, initialize, and protect your Trezor hardware wallet. Follow these steps carefully — recovery seed safety is critical.

Quick Start — What you'll need

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • An unopened Trezor device (Model One or Model T)
  • A computer with a USB port and an up-to-date browser
  • Pen and paper for writing down your recovery seed (or a metal backup)
  • Internet connection to download Trezor Suite — never install unknown third-party software)

Step-by-step setup

1

Unbox & Inspect

Confirm the tamper-evident seal is intact. Only use the official packaging and USB cable included with your Trezor. If the seal is broken or the device looks tampered with, contact the vendor for a replacement.

2

Connect to Trezor Suite

Open your browser and visit suite.trezor.io. Follow on-screen instructions to download the Trezor Bridge if prompted and connect your device via USB.

3

Initialize Device

On the Trezor device, choose Create new wallet. The device will generate a recovery seed (12, 18, or 24 words depending on model) — write these down in order and keep them offline.

4

Set a PIN

Create a PIN on your Trezor. This protects physical access to the device. Never share your PIN with anyone.

5

Verify & Backup

Trezor will ask you to confirm a few seed words on the device — this validates the backup. Store at least two geographically separate backups (paper + metal plate recommended).

6

Install Apps & Receive Funds

Use Trezor Suite to add coin apps and receive funds. Always verify receiving addresses on the device screen, not only in your browser.

Common Security Practices

Seed Security

Never store your recovery seed digitally. Do not photograph it or copy to cloud storage.

Firmware

Only install firmware updates prompted by Trezor Suite and verify release notes from trezor.io.

Phishing

Type trezor.io manually in your browser; avoid following links from unknown sources.

Troubleshooting

  • If the device is not recognized, try a different USB cable or port.
  • Clear browser cache and reconnect to suite.trezor.io.
  • For stubborn issues, reboot the computer and follow official support guides at trezor.io/support.
